How to Sauté Baby Broccoli (Broccolini) With Oyster Sauce

by Felicia Gustin

This veggie is like broccoli but with smaller florets & thin stalks. Often misidentified as young broccoli, it's a hybrid of broccoli & Chinese kale. Also known as tenderstem broccoli or bimi. Yummy!

Supplies

  • Baby Broccoli
  • Olive Oil
  • Oyster Sauce
  • Water
  • Instructions

    Step 1

Rinse the baby broccoli and pat dry.

    Step 2

I trim off the ends but you can leave them on if you want. Some people actually like the stalks better than the florets. It's just a matter of preference.

    Step 3

Put olive oil in a frying pan and turn on the heat to medium high.

    Step 4

    Add the baby broccoli.

    Step 5

Turn so they are evenly covered with the olive oil. Keep turning as you sauté the baby broccoli.

    Step 6

Then add some water - enough to cover the bottom of the pan.

    Step 7

Quickly cover because now we are steaming the baby broccoli. It's like "twice cooked" green beans only this is twice cooked baby broccoli (or whatever name you might call these).

    Step 8

    Here's the oyster sauce.

    Step 9

Remove the lid and add about 1/4 cup of the oyster sauce.

    Step 10

Stir it into the remaining water.

    Step 11

It's done! You should adjust the cook time to your personal taste. I personally like them well cooked but some folks like them firmer and crispier.

    Step 12

Serve and savor this delicious, healthy vegetable. I like to drizzle some more oyster sauce on but that's just how I roll. Enjoy!
