In a few past guides, i have shown you how to make oil on canvas paintings using mostly supplies from Lowe's. Today I will be using those same products to paint "Sandy Hook Goes Home."

First, cover your canvas with a thinned down, even coat of gray. This will allow other colors to blend. Next, use a little blue and white on a large chip brush and paint X patterns for your sky.

Use a chip brush to blend the mountain, then add whites and reds to your knife to add the snow. With the largest chip brush, blend the base of the mountain down and add some rolling hills.

Make sure you blend lighter towards each base, then start dark on the new hill. This will add depth and feeling to the piece. Also leave a path that goes all the way up the mountain.

With a fan brush, add pine trees by starting at the top and tapping down. You can also add trunks if you wish with brown on a knife. The foreground road is knifed with brown then white.

Add the Sandy Hook sign with a thick amount of white on your knife. I chose to add some flowers at the base.

Thin down some black to ink like consistency to add hinges, trim, and letters to your sign. The sign should read "Sandy Hook School 1956 visitors welcome." You can google a picture like I did.
