I am using a 1/2 inch flat head brush. Starting at the top of the bluebonnet, paint some light blue paint on each petal.

Mix the white and light blue so that the petals are not one solid color.

For now, keep the paint in the center of each petal.

Now, use the darker blue, keeping it towards the outside of each petal and ,again, working from top to bottom leaving the lighter color in the middle. The wet paints will blend as you paint.

Don't forget to rinse your brush when switching to a new color. It also helps to dab off excess water onto a paper towel.

Mix a tiny amount of black to the white paint to make a light grey. Paint the light grey on the star and white section of the flag. I used loose and rough brush strokes for added texture.

and loosely outline everything with black paint of a small pointed paint brush.  Notice my outline is not uniform and sometimes doesn't even connect to other lines. That is okay, keep it loose.
