Set up your paint tray.
Draw a rectangle on your paper to create a border around your painting.
Mix your tints.
Your lightest tint is value 2 on your value scale.
Your medium tint is value 3 on your value scale.
Mix your shades.
Your darkest shade is value 6 on your value scale.
Your medium shade is value 5 on your value scale.
Use value 7 (black) to paint a window frame.
Use value 4 (pure color) to fill in your window frame.
Use value 6 to begin painting your tree. Start with your main branch. Make this branch thick. At the end of the main branch paint a "Y". Add "Y"s to the ends of the new branches.
Continue to split the ends of each branch into "Y"s. Make each branch thinner as you move away from the main branch.
Use value 2 to add highlights to your tree. Add thin lines to the left side of each branch.
Highlights are on the left side only.
Add a moon using value 1 (white) on the left side of your window.
Paint the window panes by using value 7 (black) to paint a "T".
Add highlights to your window using value 1 (white). Highlights should be on the bottom and right of each window pane. Congratulations! You created a monochromatic painting!
