How to Make Strawberry Shortcake

Easy Peasy StrawBerry Shortcakeâ„¢


  • 1 cup (2 sticks) room temperature butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • // for strawberries
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 2 tablespons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • // for icing
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Step 2

    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

    Step 3

    To measure the butter, use a spoon and fill cup to the brim with butter. Level with a flat object.

    Step 4

    Spoon the butter into the bowl.

    Step 5

    To measure sugar, spoon it into the cup and then level with a flat utensil. Repeat for the next cup.

    Step 6

    Pour sugar into the bowl.

    Step 7

    Beat the butter and sugar mixture until creamy.

    Final product of the butter and sugar mixture.

    Sift the flour into a different bowl.

    Spoon the sifted flour into measuring cups three times, then level with a flat utensil.

    Pour milk into the liquid measuring cup. Then, put the cup on the table and bend to eye level and make sure the cup is filled to the right amount.

    Pour milk into the flour mixture.

    Pour four cracked eggs into mixture.

    Scoop baking soda into the tablespoon. Then, level off with a flat object and add to bowl.

    Scoop salt into the mixture.

    Pour vanilla extract into the teaspoon. Then, add to flour mixture.

    Beat flour mixture until creamy, with no lumps.

    Final product of flour mixture.

    Add butter/sugar mixture to flour mixture. Continue to beat.

    Grease your 9x9 inch pans.

    Pour batter into 9x9 inch pans.

    Put cake batter into oven. CAUTION: USE OVEN MITTS! Set timer for 30 minutes, allow time to bake.

    After 30 minutes, let cool. If chilled or used, it runs the risk of sinking. Nobody likes sunken cakes!

    Remove the leaves of the strawberries.

    Chop the strawberries into quarters.

    Pour the vanilla extract into a bowl.

    Shake the strawberries into the vanilla and sugar mixture. Let sit for 20 minutes.

    End down to eye level and add whipping cream.

    Add the sugar and the whipping cream into the bowl.

    Whip the cream mixture until firm. Medium peaks.

    Spoon half the whipped cream into the first layer of cake. Spread evenly!
