Use fabrics that will match or contrast each other. Cotton is easy to work with. But I've also used organza which gave it a more elegant look. Easy to make and no need to use a sewing machine.
Find a scrap fabric or maybe an old dress with a floral design or an old pillow case.
I searched on the Internet for a 3 inch diameter circle template. I printed on a card stock. I use these template over and over again. You can pick any size you want.
I cut 3 round pcs of each fabric
Fold the fabric and cut in half.
For demo purpose only, I used yellow thread so you can see where I am stitching. But you will use matching thread for your flower.
Fold the fabric to form half circle, wrong sides together. Sew approximately 1/8 in down the straight edge. You can hand sew using running stitch.
Turn right side out.
You can also use a sewing machine for convenience. This can be sewn by hand using easy, running stitch.
These what they look like. I had a total of 12 petals. I will only use 10 but you can use more or less depending on what you want your flower to look like.
Start sewing a running stitch on the bottom of each petal. Add your next petal using the same running stitch. Do not cut the thread.
I alternated the fabric. Make sure your thread is long enough to stitch enough petals to make a flower. Pull the thread gently but tight enough to form a petal.
I used 10 petals for this flower.
If you have felt scraps, cut 2 circles to cover the hole, top and bottom. You can also use your left over fabric scrap, just enough to cover the center hole.
I hot glued a bigger round felt to the bottom of the flower.
The smaller round felt for the top of the flower.
I found a button big enough to add to the center, it also covered the felt I used for the top part. You can use beads, old brooch..whatever you want to decorate your flower.
On the back side, you can glue a pin, hair clip. Use for headband, a brooch, necklace..or use to decorate a pillow or a bag.
In this example, you also have the option of layering the flowers. I used less petals on the top flower. Same technique as the one layer flower.
The layers were hot glued together. I used a fabric-covered brad for the center.
Here is it used as a clip. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the tutorials and I hope that you will try making your own flowers. Till next time. Happy creating!
