How to Make Orange Cupcakes With Frosting

From scratch orange cupcakes with orange frosting - includes using actual zest from a real orange - looks like you bought them but you will be proud you made them without a mix!

Supplies

  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 ½ Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Canola oil
  • ⅓ Cups Orange juice
  • ½ Cups Buttermilk
  • 2 Teaspoons Orange zest
  • 1 Teaspoon Orange extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking soda
  • ¾ Teaspoons Salt
  • For the frosting
  • 1 Cup Unsalted butter / 2 sticks
  • 2 ½ Cups Powdered sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Orange juice
  • ½ Teaspoons Orange extract
  • Orange food coloring
  • Sprinkles
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees Combine eggs, sugar, canola oil, orange juice, buttermilk, orange extract, vanilla extract and orange zest - mix until combined.

    Step 2

    Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

    Step 3

    Mix until smooth and scrape down sides

    Step 4

    Fill paper lined muffin cups 3/4 full

    Step 5

    Bake for 15-20 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean - cool for 10 minutes before removing from muffin tin

    Step 6

    Allow additional time to cool before frosting

    Step 7

    Mix butter till fluffy

    Step 8

    Add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time and mix until creamy after each addition. Add orange juice and orange extract during last 1/2 cup of powdered sugar

    Step 9

    Add food coloring and scrape down sides of bowl - pick frosting tip of choice and put frosting in bag.

    Step 10

    Decorate with frosting and add sprinkles as desired
