How to Make Monkey Bread From Scratch

This is a high altitude recipe with no prepackaged syrups or frozen bread.

Supplies

  • 1 ¾ Cups Flour
  • ⅛ Cups Sugar
  • ⅛ Cups Shortening
  • ½ Teaspoons Salt
  • 2 ½ Teaspoons Yeast
  • ¼ Cups Warm milk
  • ¼ Cups Warm water
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ Cups Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Cup Brown sugar
  • ¾ Cups Melted butter
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Get the ingredients for the dough

    Step 2

    Put 1 c of flour in a bowl

    Step 3

    Add 1/8 c of sugar

    Step 4

    1/8 c of shortening

    Step 5

    1/2 tsp salt

    Step 6

    2 1/2 tsp yeast

    Step 7

    Mix it well

    Step 8

    Add 1/4 c warm milk + 1/4 c warm water

    Step 9

    Crack an egg

    Step 10

    Mix it well

    Step 11

    Add the rest of the flour

    Step 12

    Place dough onto a floured surface

    Step 13

    Knead for 5 minutes

    Step 14

    Let it rest for at least 1 hour

    Step 15

    It should double in size

    Step 16

    Pinch and cut 1cm pieces

    Step 17

    Prepare seasoning with 1/2 c sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon

    Step 18

    Put pieces in bag and season them well. Let it rest for another hour

    Step 19

    Preheat oven at 170 C (350 F)

    Step 20

    Meanwhile add 1 c of brown sugar to 3/4 c melted butter

    Step 21

    Pieces should double in size

    Step 22

    Pour melted butter/brown sugar mixture on top of the dough. Bake for about an hour.

    Step 23

    We enjoy it with milk
