How to Make Lavender Sachets Out of Repurposed Fabric

by Denise Corcoran

This is the perfect project for using up fabric scraps or repurposing old clothing. It's cheap, easy & a great gift for friends.

Supplies

  • Ribbon
  • Scrap fabric
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Loose lavender
  • Instructions

    Step 1

First start out with a pattern. I printed out this heart for my sachets. I've used cookie cutters for patterns as well. For this project I'm repurposing aprons I found at the thrift store.

    Step 2

Cut out your fabric. You'll need to cut out two pieces - one for the front & one for the back.

    Step 3

Next cut pieces of ribbon. This is for hanging the sachet. Feel free to skip the ribbon if you want.

    Step 4

Now pin the front & back together as well as the ribbon.

    Step 5

Next sew up 3/4 of your sachet leaving an opening for the lavender. I used a bright thread for the stitching - it doesn't need to be perfect. I then used a makeshift funnel for adding the lavender.

    Step 6

I bought the organic loose lavender at a local tea store. I paid under $10 for the bag which will make a lot of sachets!

    Step 7

After filling the sachet with lavender stitch up the opening. And you're sachet is done!

    Step 8

You can always make different sizes & shapes plus use a variety of fabrics. Preferably a fabric that is breathable like cotton or linen.
