How to Make Kartoffelpuffer (Potato Pancakes)

Kartoffelpuffers are German potato pancakes (similar to potato rosti) these are so delicious and easy to make.


  • 6 or 7 medium starchy potatoes
  • 1 Brown onion
  • 2 Eggs
  • ⅓ Cups Plain flour
  • ½ Teaspoons Salt
  • Butter and olive oil for frying
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Wash the potatoes.

    Step 2

    Peel the potatoes.

    Step 3

    Grate the potatoes on the rough side of the grater.

    Step 4

    Place the grated potatoes in a large bowl.

    Step 5

    Peel and grate the onion.

    Step 6

    Add the grated onion to the grated potato.

    Step 7

    Lightly beat the 2 eggs.

    Step 8

    Measure out 1/3 cup of flour.

    Step 9

    Add the eggs, flour and salt to the bowl with the potato and onion.

    Step 10

    Mix together well.

    Step 11

    Place 1/4 cup fulls into a hot fry pan with a little olive oil and butter. Flatten them out a little bit.

    Fry for about 3-5 minutes on each side on a medium to high heat until golden.

    Drain on paper towels.
