Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Use a whisk to get everything evenly mixed together.
Combine the eggs separately then pour the mixture in to the bowl.
Also add the sour cream and mix it all up with a wooden spoon. Be patient, it takes a little while for everything to combine together.
The dough should be wet and elastic.
Mix in the raisins. The recipe calls for one pound but I like to use slightly less.
Generously grease the cast iron pan with butter.
Spread out the dough into the pan. Use a spatula to spread the dough to the sides and try to make the center less thick so when it rises it does not make a sharp peak.
Pop it in the oven. Don't peek!
After about an hour, take it out and stick a sharp knife in to see if it is fully cooked. If the knife comes out clean, it is done.
Let it cool on a wire rack before cutting. Slice it up and enjoy your soda bread with a shmear of butter.
