How to Make Heart Crayons and Have Some Fun With Your Kid

by Jen Lehner

Supplies

  • 1 Bunch Crayons
  • 1 Silicone heart mold
  • Hot water
  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Class pie plate
  • 1 Rimmed cookie sheet
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

    Step 2

Start with crayons. Peel them. It's ok to look dubious, as this little gal does.

    Step 3

It takes a while to peel them.

    Step 4

But it is satisfying when you get a bunch. Hooray for progress!

    Step 5

    So many pretty colors!

    Step 6

Break them into small pieces and add to your mold.

    Step 7

Here is a much easier way to remove the paper....put crayons in a glass pie dish...

    Step 8

Pour hot water over them. (But NOT BOILING WATER...they will melt!) the wrappers will peel right off!

    Step 9

I wish we knew about this step before we spent an hour peeling them from their regular state!

    Step 10

Place in a 250 degree oven, on a cookie sheet, for 20 minutes.

    Step 11

This is what they look like when you take them out.

    Step 12

Let them cool until they are hard.

    Step 13

    This is the fun part!

    Step 14

Tada! And these aren't just pretty, but fun to color with! As you might imagine, they make lots of colors when used from different angles.
