How to Make Grapefruit Biscuits

Update this staple with a surprising ingredient that doesn't overwhelm.

Supplies

  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • ½ Teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 6 Tablespoons Butter or Margarine
  • 1 Grapefruit (juiced)
  • ¼ Cups Sugar (or more as needed)
  • ¼ Cups Cold (water) or as needed
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    3 cups of flour.

    Step 2

    1 tablespoon of baking powder.

    Step 3

    1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.

    Step 4

    1 teaspoon of salt.

    Step 5

    6 tablespoon cold butter or margarine. Diced.

    Step 6

    Juice of 1 grapefruit. Remove the rind with a zester or grater before squeezing.

    Step 7

    Mix all the ingredients together. If more liquid is needed to bring the dough together, add a little water at a time.

    Step 8

    Cut biscuits into rounds and place on silicone mat (above) or greased tray. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

    Step 9

    Zest from one grapefruit.

    Step 10

    Add sugar one tablespoon at a time and press against the zest. There is no set amount of sugar because the grapefruit can be different sizes.

    Step 11

    Add enough sugar to rind until the oils are released and fully blended.

    Step 12

    Dip a spoon in water and use the back of the spoon to dampen tops of biscuits. Gently top each round with the grapefruit and sugar mixture.

    Step 13

    Bake for 15 minutes. Serve warm or room temperature. Enjoy.
