For this recipe I used fresh cherries. I washed them and removed the pit. I used a knife to cut the cherries in half and removed the pit. You can also use a cherry pit remover😋
If you prefer frozen just let it thaw before using it in this recipe.
Ok let's start, take a sauce pan and set it over medium heat. Pour 1 cup of water
To the water add the sugar
As soon as the sugar has melted a little add the cherries
Cook the cherries for about 10 minutes until softened.
The cherries have broken down and released their juices☺️ it is now time to turn off the heat and let the cherry syrup cool down.
Now comes the fun part. I used my vitamix blender for this part. You can use any blender or manually mash the cherries with a potato masher
My vitamix does a good Job liquefying the cherries.

Now it's ready to go through a sieve to discard any leftover pulp that didn't dissolve.
I didn't have a lot. It's a good idea to press on the cherry pulp to release it's juice.
Pour the cherry syrup in a 2 qt beverage container followed by the lemon juice
Pour 4-5 cups of cold water to the container. Stir and check for sugar and add it in if you like a sweet lemonade or leave out if you prefer it to be tart.
Serve over ice. Enjoy. If your feeling adventurous try adding a splash of vodka or dark rum for a refreshing summer drink🍸(adults only😉)
