How to Make French Macaroons! (For Beginners!)

by Rikki Kazmierowicz

  • ¾ Cups Almond flour
  • 1 Cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 Egg whites
  • 1 Pinch Cream of tartar
  • ¼ Cups Superfine sugar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Instructions

    Step 1

Start by making superfine sugar, if you didn't buy it. Super easy, pour granulated sugar in a blender, blend for about 20 seconds!

    Step 2

Mix together powdered sugar and almond flour.

    Step 3

Sift it twice! This is an important step! :)

    Step 4

Meanwhile, beat the egg whites to soft peaks.

    Step 5

Add in the superfine sugar, whip till peaks are stiff. (More than what I show in the picture!! ;)

    Step 6

If you so desire, add some food coloring at this step (I used the gels), and then sift in the powdered sugar and almond flour mixture!

    Step 7

Fold the batter with a rubber spatula, about 60 - 65 times.

    Step 8

Grab out a piping tip. I used Wilton 22.

    Step 9

Pipe rounds of the similar sizes one inch apart on a baking sheet line with parchment paper.

    Step 10

Bake for 10 minutes at 325 degrees. Don't allow them to brown, but make sure they are crispy.

    Step 11

Cool on a wire rack for about ten minutes, then add strawberry jam (or whatever fillings you prefer! Frosting, chocolate, fresh fruit, anything!)

    Step 12

    Ta da !! French macaroons!

    Step 13

They were so good I left them on the counter came back ten minutes later and my sister had already ate 4!

    Step 14

    Blackberry jam!
