How to Make Easy Banana Fritters

Banana fritters is an old traditional Malay delicacy and a popular Malaysian snack. It is relatively easy to make and does not take up much time. This recipe is extremely good for over-ripe bananas.


  • 300 Grams ripe bananas, mashed
  • 65 Grams rice flour, sifted
  • 35 Grams all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ¼ Teaspoons salt
  • ¼ Teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ Cups white sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Prepare all the ingredients needed for this dish.

    Step 2

    Using a fork, mash the ripe bananas until it resembles one big chunk.

    Step 3

    After the bananas has been mashed, add sifted rice flour, sifted all-purpose flour, salt and baking soda.

    Step 4

    Then add in toasted white sesame seeds. Combine until everything is well mixed. Let the batter rest for 15 minutes and we're ready to fry them.

    Step 5

    Heat up a wok of oil over medium to high heat. Dip a wooden chopstick into the oil. When the oil is ready, small bubbles will appear.

    Step 6

    Just before deep frying, mix in the brown sugar into the mashed banana batter.

    Step 7

    Using an ice-cream scoop, spoon the banana batter into the hot oil.

    Step 8

    Fry the banana balls in badges until they're golden brown and cooked through.

    Step 9

    When cooked, scoop the golden brown banana balls up using a strainer.

    Step 10

    Drain on paper towels. And we're done!

    Step 11

    Serve these crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside banana fritters hot with a cup of coffee or tea.
