How to Make Cake-Pops

by Chantelle Delichte

They are easier than you think! This recipe makes about 26 cake pops.

Supplies

  • 1 Cake mix (or cake made from scratch)
  • 1 Cup Buttercream icing
  • 1 Package of cookie sticks
  • 1 ½ Packages of white chocolate wafers
  • 1 Package of assorted sprinkles
  • 1 Styrofoam block
  • Instructions

    Step 1

*Warning* once you make these for a kid's party, they will always want them for their parties! Since I was making lemon cake pops, I added lemon rind plus a squeeze of lemon juice to my icing.

    Step 2

Bake a cake. I used a store bought cake mix (lemon flavour), but you can also make a cake from scratch. Just follow the baking directions, then remove cake from oven and let cool.

    Step 3

Cut the hard edges off the sides and top of cake then crumble it into a bowl.

    Step 4

Mix in about 1/2c. of icing. Only add a little at a time, just enough for it to bond and be able to be rolled into balls. you do not want to make them too sticky. I ended up using approx 3/4c.

    Step 5

Ready to roll. Do not eat your 'extra icing', you will still need it.

    Step 6

Cover a serving dish with Saran Wrap.

    Step 7

Begin to roll the balls approximately 1 1/2 inches wide, then place on plate.

    Step 8

Make a small indentation with the cookie stick into the cake-pops.

    Step 9

With a butter knife fill in the hole with icing.

    Step 10

Stick the cookie sticks into the cake-pops. The icing will harden and hold the sticks in place.

    Step 11

Place the cake pops in the fridge to cool for at least and hour, the cake will harden around the stick and become more dense.

    Step 12

Place half a bag of chocolate wafers in a microwave safe bowl at a time. Melt in microwave 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until chocolate is smooth.

    Step 13

Place cake-pops over the bowl of melted chocolate, begin to spoon over the chocolate with a spoon. Twirl the cake pop around until it has a nice even cover, try to drip off all the excess chocolate.

    Step 14

Pour sprinkles over the cake-pops quickly, the chocolate will harden fast.

    Step 15

Stick the finished cake-pop into the styrofoam block.

    Step 16

I covered a styrofoam ring with a streamer, then wound some washi tape around the edge as a decoration. Hope you enjoy the cake-pops!
