How to Make Blueberry or Huckleberry Jam

One of the tastiest ways to harvest your summer berries is to make them into a jam. Blueberries are rich in iron, vitamin C and E. Huckleberries are rich in antioxidants. This recipe is easy and fun.


  • 4 Cups crushed blueberries or huckleberries
  • 4 Cups sugar
  • 1 box of pectin
  • ½ Teaspoons butter
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    First wash jars and lids with hot soapy water. Then sterilize by placing them in boiling water for about 3 min. Place on a clean towel to dry.

    Step 2

    Soak berries in cold water, don't be surprised to see some bugs. Discard stems, leaves, bugs and dirt.

    Step 3

    Crush berries, an efficient, clean, and easy method is to use a jar. Then measure out exactly 4 cups of berries and 4 cups of sugar.

    Step 4

    Combine berries, butter, and pectin then bring to a rolling boil. Add sugar and bring back to boil. Allow mixture to boil for exactly one minute.

    Step 5

    Remove mixture from heat, and skim off any foam. Then ladle mixture quickly into sanitized jars. Before placing lids, clean the rims of the jars with a clean paper towel. Tighten lids until secure.

    Step 6

    Then flip jars upside down to help seal. If the middle of the lid springs back when pressed, it has not been sealed and will need to be refrigerated. Opened jars last about 3wks unopened about 1 yr.
