How to Make an Origami Crane That Flaps It's Wings!

by Zachary Asis

This is a slight variation of a traditional origami piece that everyone should learn to fold! It's simple, too!

Supplies

  • 1 Square piece of paper
  • Instructions

    Step 1

Start by folding the paper in half on both diagonals.

    Step 2

Then turn the paper over and fold the paper in half vertically and horizontally.

    Step 3

This step may be tricky if you've never done it before! Fold the left and right corners to the bottom, "collapsing" the model.

    Step 4

It should end up like this.

    Step 5

Fold the left and right corners to the center (top layer only!)

    Step 6

Do the same with the other side.

    Step 7

Fold the top point down along the folds from last step.

    Step 8

    Turn the paper over.

    Step 9

    Do step 7 again.

    Step 10

Unfold until you come back to this.

    Step 11

This is probably the hardest step of the model! Take the bottom corner (top later only) and fold it along the creases you made in steps 7+9. It should make a boat. Flatten the boat! Sry for bad vid :(

    Step 12

Do the same with the other side too. This is the model after you have done these folds.

    Step 13

Make sure the top has 3 points.

    Step 14

Fold the right "leg" to the right!

    Step 15

This is called an inside reverse fold. That means that you're reversing the crease and fold the paper inside itself (not really a good explanation :P)

    Step 16

You have made the neck+head of the crane!

    Step 17

Do the same thing on the left side as you did with the right, but don't make another head.

    Step 18

You made the tail of the crane! Almost done!

    Step 19

Fold the wing like so in the video, then match it with the other wing. (I'm not really good at explaining stuff like this, as you can see XD)

    Step 20

The crease should end up along the crane's neck.

    Step 21

    Step 22

Fold the "feet" (there's not really any guidelines for these folds)

    Step 23

    CONGRATULATIONS! You made a crane! . .

    Step 24

    . . . THAT FLAPS ITS WINGS!!!!

    Step 25

I hope you had fun making this! Show your friends!
