Gather your supplies. Cut different lengths of scrap ribbon. I have chosen to cut a pattern out of a brown paper bag.

Cut out your pattern, make sure you cut with print (right) sides touching.

Start pinning scraps of ribbon randomly around your pillow, sandwiching them between the two pieces of fabric. Make sure the loop of ribbon is touching the print side of fabric

Make sure there is some extra ribbon sticking out. This will help ensure the ribbon doesn't fray and become dislodged when baby pulls on it.
