Supplies

  • 1 Dcell battery
  • 3 Coated wires
  • 1 Flexible magnet
  • 1 Sand paper- 2 square inches
  • 2 Alligator clips
  • 2 Bare copper wires
  • 1 Battery holder
  • 1 Screw driver
  • 2 Rubber bands
  • 1 Enameled copper wire
  • 1 Switch
  • 1 Plastic cup
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Gather all materials.

    Step 2

Wind the wire around the screw in the alligator clip. The video shows you how.

    Step 3

    Stretch rubber bands over cup.

    Step 4

Wrap bare copper wire around the pencil.

    Step 5

Put coiled copper wire in rubber bands.

    Step 6

Clamp the alligator clips to the wires.

    Step 7

Wrap the enameled copper wire around the D-Cell battery.

    Step 8

Connect the circuit as shown above. Connect one alligator clip to the battery holder, the battery holder to the switch, and the switch to the alligator clip.

    Step 9

Now sand the enameled copper wire about 5 times, and then flip it over and sand it another 5 times. Then turn it around and sand the other side 5 times and then flip it over, and sand 5 times again.

    Step 10

Now stick the enameled copper wire, (sanded), into the the bare copper wire loops.

    Step 11

Put the magnet on top of the cup and under the enameled copper wire.

    Step 12

Give the coil a little tap, and it will start spinning. Make sure the switch is on. If you are stuck, look at the video. That is your spinning coil motor!
