I want to reassure you that the vinegar you use in this guide will not change the taste of the berries. I've been doing this for quite some time and my husband and I NEVER noticed any change in taste.
Okay, first things first! When you go buy any kind of berries make sure you inspect them thoroughly! Try to get the freshest possible, look for any damaged berries. Or any that just look old.
Okay, lets get started gather your supplies! It's a pretty easy process that will save you money and keep your berries fresh longer.
Mix the water and vinegar in a medium sized bowl.
Place your berries into the bowl. I'm using strawberries but I also do this solution for blue berries, black berries and raspberries.
Dunk your berries under the water. I do this for a good 3-5 minutes allowing them to get clean.
Some of you might ask WHY vinegar??? Well, vinegar actually kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit. It's like a little miracle for fruit crazy right?!
I've had raspberries last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy or soft it's amazing!!!
Okay, now drain your berries and place them in your salad spinner. Spin them around a few times but I wouldn't suggest you go crazy it might smash them. And well :) we don't want that!!
See how much water I got just from spinning them around a few times?? Now if you don't have a salad spinner that's fine just continue to the next step.
Lay out some paper towels and place your berries onto the paper towel. Lightly dab with another paper towel to get ANY water that might be left over. I do this EXTRA step to make sure no water is left
Line a air tight container with some more paper towels and fill it up with your dry berries.
Close the lid and pop in the fridge these will now last you for weeks instead of days :)!!
I hope you enjoy my little trick! One question I get a lot is don't the berries taste like vinegar?? And I can reassure you that if you follow my instructions that they will not taste any different.
I've had a lot of users ask what's the ratio of the vinegar is, it's in the supplies bar on the top right but :) it's 3 cups of water and 1 cup of vinegar. Thanks for viewing my guide everyone <3
