This guide details how to remove the hard disk drive from a Verbatim 53005 320GB USB unit. The drive you will see in the photo's is a 500GB unit because I have already swapped this out in the past.
Here is the Verbatim 53005 enclosure ready to be disassembled and for the hard disk to be removed.
You will require a small flat head screwdriver for this.
Insert the screwdriver underneath the blue lip just to the left of the USB port, lift gently to slightly separate the lid.
Work along to the middle and do the same, then to the end.
Slightly pull apart the top and bottom parts.
Work to the top corner by the USB port and pull the whole lid away, slowly and carefully.
Set the lid aside and admire the internals.
Peel away this padded sticker near the USB port. Set it aside and keep it safe.
Lift the drive out, starting with the side opposite to the USB port.
Turn the drive over.
Look carefully at the pic above, noting the plastic nub that the screwdriver is touching. Use your screwdriver in the same way to push the PCB away from the connector.
Job done! Now, to put it all back together just follow this guide in reverse.
