How to Create With Gelli Plate

by Toni Burks-Grijalva

I actually got 3 projects done with the monoprint created with my gelli print. This tutorial will basically show the process of the journal page.

  • gelli plate
  • brayer
  • stencil of choice
  • acrylic paint
  • Instructions

    Step 1

First up I chose the color of acrylics I wanted to use and a stencil as well.

    Step 2

Using a brayer I added the Cocoa and Onyx (black) to the gelli plate.

    Step 3

Using my stencil I applied the Sunrise color to the plate.

    Step 4

Here is the pattern I achieved.

    Step 5

First used white card stock and pressed down on the plate.

    Step 6

Then I used tissue paper and applied to plate.

    Step 7

Then I applied tags to the plate.

    Step 8

Last but not least I pressed on kraft paper.

    Step 9

    Results on the whitecardstock.

    Step 10

    Results on the kraft paper.

    Step 11

    results on the tissue paper.

    Step 12

    results on the tags.

    Step 13

I decided to use the tissue paper on my journal page. I first ripped sections and using collage medium in Vintage I applied to the base of my journal page.

    Step 14

I then applied ripped book pages as well as ephemera to the journal page with the collage medium in vintage. The vintage color is nice because it provides an all over sepia color to your papers.

    Step 15

I had a piece of acetate by 7 Gypsies that I adhered to the top of my ephemera. The medium was still tacky so I applied Nuvo Copper Gilding Flakes.

    Step 16

I then burnished the gilding flakes off my page.

    Step 17

Using Distress Oxide Black Soot ink I distressed the edges and then spritzed water to give a worn and shabby look to the edges of the journal page.

    Step 18

Using a charcoal pencil I outlined the acetate as well as my title that I added to the page and then smudged with finger.

    Step 19

As a finishing touch as using black archival ink I used assorted mixed media background stamps here and there.

    Step 20

For the white cardstock I made this Father's Day card. The chipboard was embossed with UTEE in Gold.

    Step 21

For the kraft paper I created this layout to place in my antique photo album, I also decorated the page with the tags that were made with the gelli plate.

    Step 22
