  • Instructions

    Step 1

    supplies...

    Step 2

tape scrap paper down to work surface, then lay down book page and tack it to scrap paper. lay stencil over page and tack it down as well. this holds everything steady for the next steps...

    Step 3

start at top of stencil with bubble gum gelato and lightly color inside the stencil - don't worry about completely filling in designs. then use guava, then lavender, overlapping the colors slightly...

    Step 4

dip paintbrush in water and blot on paper towel. begin blending the gelato colors within the stenciled design. don't worry about being perfect, it's ok if some of the color bleeds under the edges...

    Step 5

blended colors. do not remove stencil and set aside to dry...

    Step 6

use black pen to roughly outline design. for a more "random" look, lightly outline some areas and more heavily outline others...

    Step 7

remove stencil to reveal background paper...

    Step 8

find a partially blank page and tape it down to scrap paper. then tape heart stencil down to page...

    Step 9

fill in areas of stencil using red cherry gelato...

    Step 10

use a paintbrush and water to blend color as before. work with an almost dry brush around words, holding stencil in place as you go. set aside to dry leaving stencil in place...

    Step 11

use black pen to outline stencil design as before...

    Step 12

remove stencil to reveal heart embellishment...

    Step 13

cut out heart, leaving about an 1/8" border around it. use black pen to color in border...

    Step 14

cut shopping bag down and fold in half to form card base...

    Step 15

tack bag card base down to scrap paper, then tack herringbone stencil down to bag. make sure you have a complete row of chevrons at the right side...

    Step 16

outline row of chevrons at right side of card...

    Step 17

add a random zig zag pattern to fill in designs...

    Step 18

    finished border design...

    Step 19

tear edges of background paper to fit on card front. leave about a 1/2" border around top, bottom and left side. the border at the right should be mostly revealed...

    Step 20

adhere background paper to card front...

    Step 21

adhere heart on a slant near bottom right of card front...

    Step 22

    finished valentine... tami sanders * paper crafter: www.tamisanders.com --- the crafter's workshop: www.thecraftersworkshop.com --- TCW blog: www.thecraftersworkshop.com/blog
