Gather some lace and a variety of textured embellishments to decorate your egg. Don't worry if the colours match - we'll be painting over them anyway! You'll also need some black and white gesso.
Glue your lace & embellishments to the egg using strong liquid glue. I've wrapped lace around & created a diagonal motif with my embellishments and left the back plain so the egg can sit in a basket.
Paint the entire egg and all embellishments with black gesso. It may take two coats to get good coverage depending on the materials of your embellishments.
Using white gesso, lightly brush the surface of the egg & embellishments. Don't force the white gesso into grooves/creases - you want the shadows the black gesso makes to add depth to your egg.
Now, it is time for colour! I'm using ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glazes in: Fuzzy Peach, Pink Anthurium, Mediterranean Blue, Bolivian Blue, Forest Green, and Solar Gold.
Starting with the lightest colours, begin to add colour selectively to your egg & embellishments. I've used the Fuzzy Peach Silks on the just the exposed part of the egg.
Using the Mediterranean Blue Silks, I've highlighted the lace's texture and selected embellishments.
Using the Bolivian Blue Silks, I've painted the central cameo embellishment and highlighted a few other embellishments.
Using the Pink Anthurium Silks, I've highlighted the flowers on the central cameo embellishment & a few other embellishments. Layering the Silks over one another provides a beautiful effect.
Using the Forest Green Silks, I've highlighted the foliage on the Central Cameo Embellishment.
Keep playing with the colours until you are happy with the results. Here, I've added a few highlights to the embellishments and gone over the egg again with the Fuzzy Peach Silks to darken the colour.
Finally, lightly dry-brush the Solar Gold Silks over the embellishments/ lace to highlight the texture and higher points. Doesn't this just bring out all the other colours & make the egg look so Luxe?
