Create a stylized design from nature. Draw a border.
Begin your "Nearika" or yarn painting with the border. Apply glue to the border. Use a craft stick to press the yarn along the glue line. Apply 2 or more rows of yarn.
The Huichol Indians outline the figure with 1-2 rows of yarn.
Fill the inside of the shapes with a contrasting yarn color. Make sure the yarn rows are pressed side by side. For most shapes, start the yarn from the outside...
Spirals are best for circles and ovals. Apply glue. Press the end of the yarn in the center of the shape and spiral outward.
Contrasting colors and a variety of yarn patterns add interest to your Nearika.
