How to Craft an (Almost) Instant Gift Basket

by Ben Franklin Crafts

Let's Craft with Ben Franklin Crafts - Oconomowoc. Create this easy paper basket from just 1 piece of scrapbook paper. Leave it plain for an (almost) instant basket, or add embellishments if you like.

Supplies

  • 1 12" x 12" scrapbook paper
  • 1 Yard Ribbon
  • Scoring board OR ruler and stylus
  • Hole punch
  • Optional: embellishments as desired
  • Instructions

    Step 1

These are the supplies you need for this project. We used plain paper to show the folds better. This project works well with patterned scrapbook paper. You can use up some extra paper from your stash!

    Step 2

Use your scoring board and bone folder to score the paper at 4 inches and 8 inches. Turn the paper a quarter turn and repeat the scoring at 4 and 8 inches.

    Step 3

Your paper will look like this.

    Step 4

    Score each corner diagonally.

    Step 5

Your paper will now look like this.

    Step 6

Fold and crease along each scored line.

    Step 7

Fold and crease each diagonal line. Be sure the fold does not extend into the base of the basket.

    Step 8

Reverse fold each corner as shown.

    Step 9

Use a hole punch to punch a hole about half an inch from each corner.

    Step 10

Your corner holes will look like this.

    Step 11

Thread the ribbon in and out of each hole around the basket.

    Step 12

insert your gift in the basket, then gently pull the ribbons together and tie them into a bow.

    Step 13

The square sides of the basket are a great place to add embellishments. Draw pictures, use rubber stamps, add flowers or other bling before folding and tying the basket.

    Step 14

Enjoy sharing your beautiful basket with someone you love!
