How to Cook Yellow Glutinous Rice (Nasi Kunyit)

It's sometimes called turmeric glutinous rice or what we locals call Nasi Kunyit or Pulut Kunyit. This celebratory dish is very traditional and is usually served with curries in auspicious occasions

Supplies

  • 500 Grams Glutinous rice
  • 2 Dried tamarind skin
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons Turmeric powder
  • 200 Milliliters Coconut milk
  • 20 Peppercorns
  • 6 Pandan leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt or to taste
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Soak glutinous rice with turmeric powder and tamarind skins, preferably overnight.

    Step 2

    Prepare wok to steam yellow glutinous rice

    Step 3

    Line steaming pan with pandan leaves

    Step 4

    Evenly spoon glutinous rice and white peppercorns in pan.

    Step 5

    Add diluted coconut milk into rice at 10 minutes intervals until rice almost cooked.

    Step 6

    Add concentrated coconut milk into almost cooked rice and let cook another 10 minutes.

    Step 7

    Remove pandan leaves from rice before serving.

    Step 8

    And you're done! Yummmmmy with curry chicken ...mamak style.
