How to Cook Lentils and Chicken Stew

by Bea Tomas

Minimum effort required

  • 500 g lentils
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 whole garlic head
  • Chorizo (fresh better, but any is ok)
  • 2-3 potatoes
  • Salt
  • 2-3 teaspoons of paprika
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • Instructions

    Step 1

Get your ingredients ready. I do a massive batch of this because I love it and I freeze some. If you want less, halve the ingredients

    Step 2

Chop the onion and the pepper and start cooking in a bit of oil. Peel the garlic cloves but leave them whole and add them too

    Step 3

When the vegs are cooked, add the chicken and cook until sealed

    Step 4

Cut the chorizo in pieces or whole if they are small and cook a bit with everything

    Step 5

Add the lentils and stir. I use a pressure cooker for this. If you don't have one, you can cook it but it will take a lot longer

    Step 6

Add the paprika and keep stirring a bit more

    Step 7

Finally add the potatoes cut in big pieces and mix everything

    Step 8

Cover everything with water. More water better than a little, so there is no risk of burning

    Step 9

Close it and when it starts whistling, time 12 minutes. Then open it as per your pan's instructions. If you just have a normal one you will have to cook everything until the lentils are soft

    Step 10

Add the salt at the very end according to your taste. The lentils don't cook properly if you add it before they are cooked. And enjoy!
