How to Bake and Decorate Red Velvet Cupcakes

This Snapguide tutorial will teach you how to bake and decorate red velvet cupcakes.

Supplies

  • Cupcake Pans
  • 24 Cupcake Liners
  • 2 Mixing Bowls
  • 2 Spoons
  • 1 Stand Mixer with Paddle and Whisk Attachment
  • 1 Piping Bag
  • 1 Piping Tip
  • 2 Spatula
  • 1 Cupcake Batter Measure
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • 2 ½ Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 ½ Cups Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder
  • 1 ½ Cups Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk - Room Temperature
  • 2 Eggs - Room Temperature
  • 2 Tablespoons Red Food Coloring
  • 1 Teaspoon White Distilled Vinegar
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Pounds Cream Cheese - Softened
  • 1 Cup Butter - Softened
  • 4 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Grab all of your materials. You can find these in the supplies slide.

    Step 2

    Grab all of your ingredients for the cupcakes. You can find these in the supplies slide.

    Step 3

    Grab all of your ingredients for the frosting. You can find these in the supplies slide.

    Step 4

    Preheat your oven to 350°F.

    Step 5

    Put the cupcake liners in the cupcake pans.

    Step 6

    In a mixing bowl pour the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Stir with a spoon until combined.

    Step 7

    Put the stand mixer's bowl in place and attach the paddle.

    Step 8

    In the stand mixer, mix vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, distilled white vinegar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Gently beat together until combined.

    Step 9

    Add in your dry ingredients and mix until they are combined. Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl to get all dry ingredients incorporated.

    Step 10

    Divide the batter evenly among all the cupcake liners. Use either a tablespoon or a cupcake batter measure. Make sure to not fill the cupcakes over around 2/3 full.

    Step 11

    Put the cupcake pans in the oven and bake for 20 - 22 minutes.

    Step 12

    When they are done take them out of the oven and let them completely cool.

    Put another stand mixer bowl in place and attach the whisk.

    Step 14

    Sift your powdered sugar .

    Step 15

    Put your cream cheese, butter, and the remaining amount of vanilla extract into the bowl.

    Step 16

    Put in your sifted powdered sugar into the mixture about one cup at a time.

    Step 17

    Mix in the powdered sugar starting at a slow speed and increasing the speed as the powdered sugar gets incorporated. Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl to get all the powdered sugar mixed.

    Step 18

    When your frosting is done, put your piping tip in your piping bag.

    Step 19

    Using a spatula, scoop your frosting into the piping bag.

    Step 20

    Pipe your frosting onto your cupcakes in anyway you choose.

    Step 21

    Take a chocolate bar and shave slices off of it to create chocolate swirls ( this is optional).

    Step 22

    Sprinkle your chocolate shavings onto your cupcakes ( this is optional). Enjoy!
