  • Instructions

    Step 1

    Sift flour...

    Step 2

    ...cocoa and salt together.

    Step 3

    Mix until it looks like....

    Step 4

    ...this. Set aside.

    Step 5

I forgot to take the butter out of the fridge so I put it in the microwave for about 15 seconds to get it as soft as in room temperature.

    Step 6

Beat the butter with a hand or electric mixer.

    Step 7

    Add sugar and beaaat!

    Step 8

It already looks good, doesn't it?

    Step 9

Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Step 10

    Step 11

    Add vanilla and beat.

    Step 12

The original recipe asks for buttermilk, I don't have it, so let's make it ourselves. Put the milk in a bowl.

    Step 13

Add about 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and mix. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.

    Step 14

Now it's time for the black food color.

    Step 15

I added 1 1/2 tablespoon, not two, because it was more than enough. This looks a little creepy, and it will look a little creepy from now on but just wait and see how it all will change - magic!

    Step 16

Don't forget to turn the oven on: 175 degrees Celsius.

    Step 17

Alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk, in three additions, beginning and ending with the flour (use a mixer).

    Step 18

    Step 19

    Step 20

    Step 21

    Tada!

    Step 22

Bake it in the oven for 35 minutes.

    Step 23

    Go!

    Step 24

    Take out the cake!

    Step 25

    Cream cheese frosting

    Step 26

Now, beat the cream until whipped and fluffy. Put it in a separate bowl.

    Step 27

    Step 28

Put cream cheese and mascarpone cheese in the mixer.

    Step 29

    Add vanilla and powdered sugar.

    Step 30

    Step 31

Fold in the whipped cream carefully.

    Step 32

Add red food coloring, about 2 teaspoons.

    Step 33

    Step 34

    Step 35

Cut the cake in half and then cut each half in the middle to get 4 layers.

    Step 36

But one layer of the cake and layer it with the cream.

    Step 37

    Step 38

    Step 39

Put it in the fridge (I had the cake in the fridge during the time).

    Step 40

    Flowers and decoration!

    Step 41

    Step 42

    Make five small circles.

    Step 43

    Press the ends together.

    Step 44

Repeat and add it to the previous piece.

    Step 45

Repeat until it looks like this.

    Step 46

    Step 47

    Add a toothpick.

    Step 48

    Make a yellow little ball.

    Step 49

    Add it to the flower.

    Step 50

    Done! Make 11 flowers!

    Step 51

    Take out the cake!

    Step 52

I forgot to take a picture of the "vase cream" but it's only cream cheese with a little powdered sugar and food coloring (red, yellow and black).

    Step 53

    Step 54

Put the flowers in the "soil".

    Step 55

    Step 56

    Start adding the leaves.

    Step 57

    Use a lot!

    Step 58

    Step 59

Here you go, a black velvet cake with pink cream that looks like a vase with flowers! Pretty cool, huh?

    Step 60
