Go to the "notes" app of your iTouch. Tap on the "+" sign at the top to create a new note. Type your message (mine is just an example from a Facebook post from a long time ago that I never deleted.)
Now we're going to copy your message: Gently place your finger on the text so that the magnifying glass appears. When it appears, let go and you'll see...
...This little pop-up. (double tap the picture for full screen view.) You see how the word is highlighted in blue and has little tabs on either end?
Take the tab at the end of the word and pull it across the screen to highlight the portion you want to copy. Or, if you want all of it, simply press "select all". Then tap "copy".
Next, go to the app you want to insert the message (as an ex. I chose Snapguide's private message option.) Pull up the keyboard and tap the text area. The little button "Paste" will appear. Press it.
And there you go!!! Your important message has been typed with NO interruptions of the iTouch crashing and deleting your hard work!! No more frustrations or pulling out of the hair! Ha ha!
Who knows, maybe you all already know this trick, but I was inspired to go for it and share, as my friend went through this trouble earlier, typing a message to me. :) Thanks for viewing!!
