How to Start an iPhone Repair Business
A tale of entrepreneurship
Meet David. He has big dreams of being an entrepreneur. Unfortunately he is broke and unemployed. He spent his life savings training for the Xbox Call of Duty Tournament, which he took 68th place.
Like everyone, David just wants to have nice things.
He hits the pavement, determined to find work. A day job, simply a safety net while he develops his own business. David spends day after day looking for something, anything, but has no luck.
His girlfriend Stephanie has had it. The bills are piling up. He has to take a leap of faith, make good on all his promises of a better life for the two of them. Time to dive in and start a business.
What is this? Work from home and get rich fast?!! Sounds tempting, but he got burned on a similar offer years ago when he got caught up in that Nigerian email scam.
That's it! Auntie Anne's Pretzels is looking for a franchisee in his area. David was so excited he wrote up his business plan that night like a modern day Jerry Maquire. It was finally happening!
The next day Stephanie received horrific news while at work. David had been on his way to apply for a small business loan at the bank that morning when tragedy struck. The accident left him in a coma.
Stephanie knew she had to carry out David's dream of starting a business, she marched into the bank demanding a loan. The bankers discussed it and denied her application.
Night after night she searched through his Internet history, looking for other ideas he may have had. After seeing several sites she wished she hadn't, a low investment business opportunity appeared.
Stephanie visited a local pawn shop and got the money she needed to start a iPhone repair business. She loved that MacBook Pro, but she was going to honor David's dream.
She set up her wholesale account with eTech Parts. It was so simple to get started and they even offered a comprehensive iPhone repair start up kit.
In between visits to the hospital to be by David's side and her full time government job, Stephanie spent hours in her cubicle at home watching videos of iPhone repairs.
She was ready! She placed a free ad on Craigslist offering up repair services for iPhones & other mobile devices. To play it safe, she always made arrangements to meet customers in public places.
She fixed one phone, then another, and the next thing she knew the word was out. Quickly it became apparent she needed a retail space. She could no longer work out of the back of her pick up truck.
Exploding with pride she opened her first storefront in David's name in August of 2012.
Trying to push her profits, Stephanie learned there was huge money in selling accessories too. Is there a better customer to sell a protective case to then someone that has broken their phone?
David is still in a coma, but business is great. Most evenings Stephanie finds solace cuddled up in her chair, clutching David's favorite shirt, watching a movie they both adored.
