Did this quite a while ago, but now I need to make changes to the location services, but I forgot my password, does anybody know how to retrieve a password I made up for restrictions?

Richie, I think you may be nuts. Not everyone can afford to just let a stolen phone stay lost. Tutorial Doctor - thanks for sharing this extra information. I had no idea these new features even existed! I'll definitely have to try them out.

Good guise, but it needs to be more full. In IOS6 they also introduced GUIDED ACCESS, which prevents people from turning off an Iphone, or leaving a particular app. You can also mention that they need to disallow changes to account information also in the RESTRICTIONS section. Also you have to disallow DELETING apps, as they could just delete the find my iphone app. Also the Iphone should be password protected. etc.

My sister's had her iPhone stolen twice. Both times the thief eventually ditched the phone because I repeatedly locked the phone, sent threatening messages, and setting off alarms with find my iPhone. So this guide actually is useful. Unless the thief if some kind of mastermind walking around with a laptop with iTunes and the proper cable, you can find the phone quicker than they can restore it to factory settings.

By the time you notice your phone has been lost/stolen which wouldn't be very long I doubt any one would have time to find a cable and restore on iTunes I get my phone out about every five minutes lol

Well if someone steals it and he tries to turn of location services and he realizes he can't, he might eventually just leaves it behind / you have enough time to lock it

Yeah but sometimes the stealer doesn't even know if they have your phone. A robber stole a mans car and his iPhone was in it and they were able to track him down. Also you never know if the thief knows how to use an iPhone. It's better to be safe then sorry

Oh I see, but still, like Steven said, they can always reset the phone to factory's settings.

They can always turn off the device and restore the phone to reset everything. So this is pretty much useless.

Good guide and to answer Amanda - no to disable this the person would need the pass code you entered to enable it :)

Couldn't someone (the stealer of your iDevice) just as easily "undo" this and turn off GPS??

I don't have "Ping" on my phone. Is this an app?

The downside to this is that new apps won't be able to use location services unless it is reversed.
