Terri Doak

Thank you! Great idea and just in time for my cord. After the spring poked my thumb, a little blood, and a curse word - I now have my cord protector installed! ;D

Elizabeth Sutcliffe

Thanks this helped a lot. Also worked a trick in repairing my laptop charger or at least long enough for me to get a replacement.

Good idea. But when I reached the end of the spring, it poked my finger. And its still bleeding. Any other ideas to keep it from bending?

@Christine, can those same cables be used with a iPod?

Thanks for comment Christine :)

Christie McMillan

Great guide. I don't use ball point pens, so I don't have any springs. I buy extra iPhone cables on ebay for $1 or so, so I always gave spare cables. Thanks for sharing.

What about using some black electrical tape if this fails?

Dana Lewis 8 months ago

Angelica Andersson

Apples cables are thicker than nokia for example, and the spring is pretty big so it works very well with apples chargers :)

Even better if the spring is over the white plastic under the plug.

(author) 9 months ago

Erik Koennecke

Nice guide! Make sure that the spring is as close to the plug as in the picture, or you'll end up with a breaking point and make it worse.

Sebastien: I have braces too, I'm gonna try with wax :)

Laura Atwood

Brilliant idea! Maybe try painting the tips of the spring with nail polish? A few layers might prevent cutting into the cord.

Or even so small wax ball (Got them because i had braces :S) or some light plastic !

MrLeBlanc 101 9 months ago

MrLeBlanc 101

Just put a bit of hot clue on each end so it doesnt break the cord :D

MrLeBlanc 101 9 months ago

Melanie Mikaelian

You could always wrap the spring with tape or at least both of the ends so it doesn't pinch the cord

Melanie Mikaelian 9 months ago

Angelica Andersson

Sara: yeah you should be careful :/ but if you are it works perfect!
