Mostly crafts stores will have the thread. If you have any michael's or Jo Ann'a. Also usually where you can buy cross stitch supplies.

Will the metallic thread scratch the screen on the device?

Maryann Krueger 4 months ago

AJ Coady

Cool idea! I'm sure it will work, but not because the screen is heat sensitive. The screens are activated by the capacitance of your finger. The temperature doesn't have anything to do with it. There are some rubbers that mimic the capacitance of the human skin. The screens run on the same principle as the touch lamps from years ago.

SCOTTnLYN C

Rose, you can pretty much turn any gloves into touchscreen gloves. I just prefer these kinds of gloves.

Rose McConville

Good idea! However, these gloves won't be very useful in -35 to -40 degrees Celsius weather like we are having right now in Ottawa :P But its still genius :)

The purpose of using metallic thread is to conduct the electricity from your finger through the thread then to the heat sensitive screen.

Is has to have some metallic properties. Take your phone with you when you buy thread and touch your phone with the thread. Make sure your finger is in contact with the material.

(author) 4 months ago

Maddee Bauer

Is there any way to use sewing thread?

Maddee Bauer 4 months ago

SCOTTnLYN C

Doreen is right, any fabric and crafts store would have them. As for substitute, you can what they call conductive threads but they are far more expensive and buying an embroidery thread.

No need to cut any holes. It's the metallic thread. It transfers the electricity from your fingers to the thread then to your screen.

(author) 4 months ago

Wade Scrantz

Thank you but do you have to cut a hole in the glove or does the thread activate the sensor in the screen

Wade Scrantz 4 months ago

SCOTTnLYN C

Wade- I don't see why not. I'm thinking any fabric you're able to stitch would work. It's worth a try.
