You can add more or less of the ingredients if you'd like. Work with what you've got in you're fridge! This works best with lime juice but I only had lemon juice so that's fine too.

Step 2 of 12
These are the ingredients you need. If you don't have red or yellow bell pepper you can just use green bell pepper, no biggie.

Wash, peel, devein your shrimp. (Make sure you take off the tails too). Strain them and pat dry with paper towels.

Wash and chop up your veggies: 1 jalapeño (remove seeds if you don't want it too spicy) 1/2 onion, 1/2 red bell pepper, 1/2 yellow bell pepper, 1 bunch of cilantro (remove stems).

Great Job! This is a very forgiving recipe that was very easy to prepare. It helps to buy uncooked jumbo (tiger) shrimp which have been deveined. It facilitates the peeling/cleaning since the shell has been split down the back. Great dish to help you beat the winter blahs! Enjoying it with a glass of wine as I type.

Wow, I'm a spaz today. Sorry about that. Okay, I just made this and it's sitting the fridge till the acid in the lime/lemon juice cooks it. I can't wait to taste.

Is there a difference in time when using different fish o

Tom Silvia

How about habanero flakes will they work as a little heat

Tom Silvia last year

Estela Arroyo

Yes Tom that's more like Mexican type of ceviche, personally I don't like it with ketchup it gives a weird sweet taste that doesn't mix well with the lime, it does taste really good with Tabasco hot sauce though :)

Tom Silvia

Is it true some people use ketchup?

THIS DISH IS AWESOME!!!! I made it yesterday and it was a huge success! Everyone love it! Thanks Estela for the recipe!

the shrimp I used is RAW, NOT COOKED AT ALL, it looks like that because the color, we buy this shrimp in the gulf of Mexico that's why it looks a bit different than store bought shrimp, you can absolutely replace the shrimp with fish it tastes great like that too, or you can do half and half :)

Jamie Rae

Just curious...the shrimp in your pic looked cooked. I thought the lime juice "cooks" the shrimp/fish? I use scallops and sea bass. This looks great tho'

Jamie Rae last year

Spicy Sin

This looks great! Can you substitute the shrimp for fish?

Spicy Sin last year

Ms KimJ

That looks delicious and simple. You said raw shrimp but it looked like the shrimp in your photos was already cooked. Definitely going to try this. Thanks

Lilly Wilson last year

Estela Arroyo

@lilly yup the lime cooks it for you so you don't have to worry just make sure you leave it in the fridge for 2 hours, you can also use fish for this recipe

(author) last year

Estela Arroyo

@justin you don't need to drain it, I leave the lime juice in the bowl, of course when you're serving it don't pour any of the lime juice along with it.
