Ladies and gentlemen, this is what we're making. Let's start 😊

Step 2 of 24
Get a rectangular sheet of thick paper (over 150gsm) or cardboard. Exact dimensions & crooked edges don't matter. Anything goes from nice colored card to simply cutting out the side of a cereal box.

Same for the other corner.

Step 8 of 24

Bring together the two folded corners so that they overlap. This makes the basic shape. But first, undo the corner folds so that it is only folded in half (video explains it better than words)

Step 9 of 24
Scissor time!

Step 10 of 24
Cut out a piece like this. At its narrowest point, it has to be about as thick as your iPhone in its case if you use one. 😊

Step 11 of 24
NOTE: These measurements are only for the curious! You do not need to follow them- in fact you may prefer to get a different angle. This is just how I did it.

Step 12 of 24

Stand it up and test it with your phone. You may want to retry the last step (cutting the slot which the phone stands in) to get the angle how you like.

Step 13 of 24
Less is more: trim off the end as shown. Doesn't need to be exact. My sheet of paper was a little too long. Just leave at least 3cm after the phone slot.

Step 14 of 24

Open it up.

Step 15 of 24
Optional: use a ruler and the blunt side of your scissors (or the back of a kitchen knife or craft knife) to score along the dotted lines.

Stand it up (like in step 12) and admire the support angles which you just made. They make it a lot stronger. 💪

Now we can secure it using a stapler, double sided tape, glue or anything else you might think of.

Step 19 of 24

The next three steps are optional.😜 If you own a stapler, glue or tape, you are allowed to skip to step 23.

Step 20 of 24
You don't have a stapler or glue or tape? In that case, turn it belly up and cut this tab. (Careful, don't cut yourself while trying to stab through the paper!) ✂

Step 21 of 24
Fold back the tab and draw a line on the paper layer beneath and cut that too.

Step 22 of 24
You guessed it! You put the tab through the slit you just cut. Preferably so that it points inwards as shown.

Thanks guys :) George, not sure about iPad.. It does have more weight, though a larger/stiffer sheet of card might actually do the trick. Most people seem to have a case that offers some kind of stand feature, not so for the iPhone...

@Kati T. My relationship was long distance for a while, which called for a lot of FaceTime and Skype video chatting. We started making phone stands out of cardboard but they started out mostly ugly and not sturdy, so I wanted to come up with a nicer one :)

Kati T.

Where'd you come up with this

Good job!

Hmm..That depends on the strength of the sheet... I'd suggest trying it with some thicker cardboard, like from a cereal box or similar.
