This is a quick and easy way to make bagels using store bought pizza dough. This has changed my weekend breakfast!

Take the dough out of the package and let it sit for 20 minutes.

Prior to rolling out your dough, boil enough water in a pot big enough to fully immerse the bagel.

Divide the dough in 2 parts. You can also cut into 3 or 4 parts for smaller bagels, but oven time would be less.

Roll dough out to about 10 to 12 inches.

Join the ends and pinch to close dough into a bagel shape.

Place bagel in boiling water for 4 minutes. Flip bagel over after 2 minutes. It's easier if you use two spatulas. Boil one bagel at a time.

Preheat your oven to 400F.

Put a mixture of poppy seeds, minced garlic and onion, sesame seeds and kosher salt on a plate. Set some mixture aside in a small bowl. Your bagel = your desired ratio.

Brush the bottom of the bagel with water and press into the mixture.

Grab your small bowl with your mixture of toppings. Brush the top of the bagel with water and sprinkle mixture on top to your liking. Press mixture into bagel with fingers.

What a great clear easily understood guide. Can you use homemade pizza dough? I use my bread-maker to make an artisan dough that all the time and keep 2 in freezer ready to use. Recipe sounds delicious will plan on making for this weekend

Vanessa, traditional bagels are always boiled. Boiling it allows the outer crust to form and gives the bagel it's signature chewy texture. The longer it is boiled, the thicker the crust and the denser and chewier the interior. Baking the bagel after boiling it allows the dough to cook through.
