Add coconut oil. 1 tsp. More if you like. I used 1 Tbs b/c I have hair that needs it. I generally use products formulated for ethnic hair. If you have thin hair don't use too much oil or conditioner.

Here's a picture of it dry after being scrunched. You can also spray before bed and put your hair into multiple braids, unbraiding in the morning for more uniform waves.

Guys, I bet you can find coconut oil if you check the Asian/ oriental / Jamaican aisles, it's used for cooking too and it's way cheaper than toiletries, creams, lotions that contain it. My friend claims it helped her with the stretch marks too. Extra virgin olive oil is great for skin & hair too. By the way, great guide!!!

Just out of curiosity, would using regular salt/ coarse do nothing and negate the whole thing?

Check out Sprout's or any other whole foods (Health foods type) store. I don't know if you are in California or not but that is where I get my Coconut oil from. It's in the beauty/supplements area. =)

Yes on the curl gel- that's what holds the shape .

I couldn't find coconut oil ANYWHERE:. So I did some research and used light conditioner in the place of the oil. Should I still add some curl gel?

Thank you! :)

Malea- maybe make a batch with teaspoon measurements- use it normally, if you get greasy add water or don't spray on your roots. That's what I would do. Good luck!

Kacey- I use olive oil in my hair all the time too- I can't see why it wouldn't work. The consistency would probably be different and you'd probably really have to shake it well before each use. I condition my daughter's hair with Helman's Real Mayo! Lol!

I have thick/thin hair but it can also get oily very easily but it's also dry too :p so will this work on my hair?

Can I substitute the coconut with olive oil since I don't really have extra money to go and buy some?? :) I do this thing sometimes where I take a cup of olive oil and put it in my hair, let it sit for about 30 minutes and I wash my hair like normal and I'm the morning, my hair is silky smooth and my ends aren't split and dry :)

Kacey Thimmes 10 months ago

Johnney King

So, since I have very thick. Very straight hair I added a little more gel along with a bit of texture cream when i scrunch. /)

If I use that gel on its own it can be bad news, but if I use it on super wet hair and only use a tiny tiny bit it's fine. Mixed into the rest of the ingredients it works perfect- no nasty crunch at all!

Sam Campbell

Did the gel make your hair crunchy? Because I have hair like yours; curly wavy I have to make sure products don't make my hair crunchy because I hate it when it's like tht!!! Hahahaha love your tutorial!

The research I did said not to substitute salts. I don't know why, I can't imagine anything terrible would happen, but again, everywhere I looked said not to use table salt.

Try scrunching while blow drying. Also, get a diffuser. Works wonders! I just use hot rollers now, because I got my hair cut, it's straight now. The jumbo ones are great, and they don't burn, as they are in for 15-20 minutes. Good luck!
