Postscript: The leftovers was cooled overnight in the fridge. As the clafoutis is similar to a creme brûlée I sprinkled sugar on top and burned the sugar - A very tasty dessert - also the second eve

@ Shine :-) I'm so happy my recipe could bring back your childhood memories - hopefully you'll let me know if it tastes as you remember - otherwise I have other recipes for this kind of cherry cake that I could send you - to try to come as close as possible to the right grandmother's taste :-)

This brings back so many good memories. My grandmother made something very similar if not the same, I'll never know because she's no longer with us. She would use cherries and sometimes add plums too but I remember when it came to baking plums they had to be a certain kind. All other berries and fruits were except able but not that plum.. LoL. I wish I had paid closer attention to my grandmothers recipe but it was something she was proud to make her family and by the time she got too old I was away at school. Thank you Jane so much for sharing this guide, I never thought I would see anything like this recipe again. It truly warms my heart and I'm so thrilled to give it a try :-)

@Shayne: It's nearly paradise :-) Cherry trees get quite big for an ordinary family garden - but I had to place 3 of them in my front yard to enjoy the blossoms in May and the cherries in July :-)

@ Sally - yes, cognac drizzled on after just a few minutes. We had the cake when it was still a little warm :-)

I've always called it a cherry pitter. (You can use it for olives also!) Your recipe looks delicious! And it looks like you live in paradise with all those cherry trees!

I think we just call it a cherry stoner! Do you drizzle the cognac over the top while it's still warm? It looks wonderful!

Instead of the word "dough" you could say "batter"
