First thing first, let me just say that I am NOT a nutritionist nor am I a fintness expert and nothing from my claims should be taken in as 100% fact! But I state what I know from certified experts!
It's important to know these 5 rules regarding a post workout meal! (1) liquid (2) fast (3) no fat (4) high carb (5) high protein! Explanation follows in the next slides
Liquid! Your post workout meal is best consumed in a liquid form because your body will absorb it quicker which is exactly what you want! The sooner your muscles absorb nutrients, the bigger they get
Fast! When you workout, your muscles get bulked and they pump up! To help maintain their size with minimal inflation, you will need to eat ASAP ! Time is crucial, prepare your meal before the workout!
No fat! Whether they are healthy or unhealthy fats, stay away from them in the post workout meal! Fats slow down the absorption of nutrients into your body. A post workout meal should be ...FAST!
High carbs! Eat or drink carbs! They will speed up the nutrients into your body to help keep those muscles you worked so hard to get! Honey and maple syrup and molasses are great to put in your shake!
High protein! Don't go crazy with a dozen boiled eggs here! Just get a good amount of protein to feed your muscles and help maintain them. Proteins also help in post workout recovery!
Finally, keep it healthy!
Ok im sorry I bored you with those slides, let's get on with the actual shake now!
Gather up the ingredients! Click on the picture to see the full photo!
Put the whey protein and water in a blender. I used ON gold standard 100% whey protien in vanilla icecream flavor! Use whichever brand you trust, and whichever flavor you like!
Blend on high for 30 seconds or untill completely smooth. You could also use fat free milk if you wish, just not low fat.
Add the rest of the ingredients, just throw them all in!
Blend until as smooth or as chunky as you like!
Pour in a glass & drink! I made it before my workout and by the time I was done from my workout, the shake changed colors because the bananas got brown from oxidation! But that doesnt affect anything!
