I am going to try with magazines because I don't have any books at the moment but when garage sale season starts they are on my list of items to buy for crafts. This is actually the third or fourth time I have looked at this guide because I really love how it looks. I sell items on Etsy from time to time and I really think you could make a bundle selling these, especially if you advertise them as up cycled that seems to be the new "buzz" word or repurposed book wreath.
Heidi, thanks!! It's been wonderfully being a mommy. I used a 16 or 18inch diameter foam ring. I wanted it big! You can use any size you want. I just figured if I was going to put in the time then I was going to make it worth it :). Good luck. I love mine!
Crepe paper I think would just not last long at all. I'm so surprised by some of the reactions about books being used. I thinks it's even nicer because the thickness & quality of old books is just gorgeous! What size ring did you use? I'm def making this! It seems like very meditative art anyone can do watching the Telly or whatnot! I can now add this art to my regular beadweaving (off loom right now) wearable arts as well as some sculptural beadwoven pieces... Btw, congratulations on becoming a mother!!! I've a granddaughter who's now 2.5 (soon will be 2.6) and we will have our very very FIRST boy in the family. He'll be here unfortunately during the Christmas holiday. Let's hope it's the due date on 27th... But baby will be born when he's ready and not when we want! Congratulations again!!! Best of luck and much joys over the years! Heidi...
Justine. It took many hours while my newborn girl took naps. I am not sure of the total time. No the roses do not go all the way around. But I made sure that none of the foam showed from the sides or the middle.
I have 2 questions, how long did it take to make? and do the roses go right round the wreath, or is it flat to the door with the polystyrene ring touching the door? thanks it is beautiful I want one!
Beth. It doesn't really matter but I used books that were about the size of a 5 x 7 photo. The bigger the page, the bigger the spiral, and the thicker the rose.
I used books I was never going to read again and even some thrift store finds and newspaper would be too thin and messy. The ink on newspaper runs off.
If that ever happens, just think of our small population of Deaf individuals, or actually to be "proper" a term I despise, hearing 'impaired' individuals which to our counterparts is small... Believe me, there are thousands upon thousands upon more of us in population... But the recognition that SG will receive from highly reputable companies, to the best university for the Deaf world over, Galludet, (I shouldn't leave out RIT/NTID)... NAD, even the Papers... HUGE! It would be truly awesome to see who will be first ever in history to CC everything!!!! Thanks so much for your patience. I'm so going to make this!!!
Are you talking at all in this step? If so, would you be so kind to interpret what you've said, please. (I wish SnapGuide had Close Caption that's automatically on all videos. (not the voice recognition version!, but the real Caption everyone has seen on Telly before)... If SnapGuide do eventually automatically have proper ALL step-by-step video on only the ones where one or so are instructing/talking, just think... SnapGuide WILL become the world's very first DIY guide/tutorials with SBS videos for not just the likes of us, but for everyone! ...
Same question as in step 10, are you talking? Btw, doesn't that 'kind' of 'glue' eventually dry out over the years? I would think something much more involved would need to be done to ensure its permanence. I'm speaking in terms of 50+ years from now. What do you think?
Ooh how so very lovely! It's certainly a rose that's a rose in a rose entirely by itself! Gorgeous! I've not yet read the remaining steps... But just think... If you add just 'A' DROP of Turkish rose essential oil on a very worn out diaper or nappy cloth and sew the cloth that's oh perhaps .5 x .5" square or whatever... Wire or better yet 6lb or whatever weight of crystal (clear) monofilament Fireline that's usually used for fishing... The name of it is Fireline and comes in two colours, Crystal or charcoal... Don't thread the cloth to the roses!!! Thread it exceptionally well behind the back of the roses that are all attached to perhaps some sort of. Metal wreath frame??? Always put uncut essential oil on after cloth is fully sewn on the backing, then add a drop. Walk past it, you've got a lovely scent that permeates or wafts!
