How to Make a Glitter Tumbler

I love glitter and Starbucks so why not put both together! This adds a fun unique decoration to a somewhat boring cup.

You will need a double layered tumbler. All new Starbucks iced tumblers have an inner core.

Next grab some glitter from your local craft store. Im partial to the Martha Stewart collection. She has lots of different colors and forms of glitter.

Yes I made this DYI based on Starbucks Tumblers only. Im sure there are double walled tumblers out there. But unfortunately I made this one with only Starbucks in mind.

@sharon: not all of then come apart like this. Though they are all double walled (or double insulated). If you cup has a thick whitish rubber like band around the rim ( its like a grip pad) then you have the customizable one.

Stupid question: how do you unscrew the inner core? I have the tumbler but I can't figure out how to do it!

Madame McDerpington

Good idea! I have a customizable hot cup from target similar to the tumbler in this that comes with a strip of paper. I coated the strip of paper in a light coat of glue and dipped the paper into a paper plate of glitter. Then I tapped the excess glitter off, let it dry and put it back in.

Great addition Julianna!! Glad you got the chance to try it out!

So cute!! Tried it and went with a coat of clear sealant after it had (completely, overnight) dried and it's gorgeous and flake free. I use a clear gloss sealant afterwards on all my glitter crafts as a general rule, which is why I tried it. What a great tutorial, thanks!!

For anyone wanting to so this who doesn't have a Starbucks tumbler yet: they will go 40%off during the 12 days of gifting promotion ( dec 1-12) I believe the date is the 7th (each day is something different) but ask your local Starbucks and they'll have all the details for you!

Hello ladies. I answered malaika's question in a separate message. Sorry about that. NO you do now need to seal anything in this project. I have had mine done for 2 months now and it's been dropped, washed and much more. Just use a good adhesive spray and you will be fine. Another layer of glue would be a really bad decision!!! This will make the inner core stick to the outer and you don't want that. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! And have fun!

(author) 7 months ago

Rane Body Decor

I have not done this specific project, but having worked with glitter before I think spraying it a second time is a great idea. It'll seal it which will keep it from flaking and give it a longer life.

Rane Body Decor 7 months ago

Erin Gateman

👆 I had the same question should we spray another layer of glue then or is it fine as is? Loved how it turned out btw!

Erin Gateman 7 months ago

Malaika Lacy

Such a cute idea! I love it! After u spray the adhesive and put the glitter in the cup do you need to spray some kind of sealant over the glitter to keep the glitter from coming off or does the glitter hold up pretty well?

Malea Sager

Ohhh I didn't know that :p

Malea Sager 8 months ago

Bailey Carlin

Yes because you will be putting glitter and spray in the inside of the outer piece to the tumbler. There is a separate core piece that you have to unscrew and set aside.

(author) 8 months ago

Malea Sager

You sprayed it on the inside? Is it safe to drink out of then?

Malea Sager 8 months ago

Bailey Carlin

Yep! I got the idea from Pinterest :)

Never dishwash these cups!! No matter what they fall apart really quickly if you do!

(author) 8 months ago

Rane Body Decor

All Starbucks cups say hand wash only but I have this tumble and I put ( without glitter) both pieces in. If you glitter it up I wouldn't put it in there.

Alexa Pavón

Is this dishwasher safe? Or would I need to just put the inner core in the dishwasher? I love it though! So cute!

Check at Starbucks.com or a licensed location ( like a Starbucks inside a target or a grocery store) also keep your eye out around Xmas time because they had one last year that had a Xmas scene in it ( that was removable)

Rane Body Decor 7 months ago

Bailey Carlin

Hey Jennifer! Im guessing that most Starbucks locations have made it a seasonal product. And since we are in the Fall/Christmas season they have taken iced cups of the shelves for the time being. My best guess would to go to Starbucks.com and look in their sale items. You may be able to find some grande sizes there. Sorry you haven't had luck finding them so far. I hope you do!

(author) 7 months ago

Jennifer Catherine

I've been to a couple Starbucks and can't seem to find this specific cup. Do you know of a place online I could order this? It would make great Christmas gifts!!

Jennifer Catherine 7 months ago

Rane Body Decor

I do own 3 of these in the venti size though and I think this would be a great way to customize them!

Rane Body Decor 8 months ago

Rane Body Decor

I'm sorry to be that person that just has to make a correction, but not all new cups come apart like this. It's a customizable cup which is why it comes apart. All Starbucks tumblers ARE double walled or double insulated but they do not all come apart like this one. This cup is aprox 3$ more than your standard tumbler.
