Sew through the tie so you can't see it in front.

OR instead of sewing just wrap thread around the middle. My dog is 14 so this should hold but might not for more active dogs!

Take a thin strip of the same or matching fabric.

@Minda - My secret is #1. He's a purebred meaning he doesn't have the problems mix breeding can lead to. #2. He goes to see his DR. regularly for check ups & blood tests. I ask about nearly every sniffle while I'm there because I made the mistake years ago of not Addressing his problem of over drinking and frequent urination. Turns out he has kidney damage which was declining quick! I almost quit my job to be home to let him out every 10 mins! Changing to prescription food fixed it nearly completely. He's happy & healthy now! He can get very expensive sometimes but he's worth it. 
