Tint your icing to whatever color you want for your "flowers". I used red for the regular ones and light pink for the buds

Hey Jessica! I do use a heavier cake recipe for this. You can email me if you want it jeffcurtismccoy@yahoo.com. I poke the skewers far down enough that the cupcake sits on the styrofoam without the skewer popping trough the top. There should only be an inch or so sticking out of the styrofoam. Course if it sticks out through the top a but, just ice overtop it ;)

so apparently I'm not the master flower icer... haha, but I did have a question for the next time I try this - the skewers kept popping out the top of the cupcake, are my cupcakes too heavy? I offset them and doubled up on the bigger cupcakes and I think that will help, but without refrigeration, I'm afraid they'll keep falling. thanks again for the great guide! such a creative idea!
