How to Make a 3-D Hexaflexagon (Tri Kaleidocycle)
I adapted this how-to from aussiepaperson's video on YouTube.
I used a sheet of printer paper. I do not recommend construction paper because it does not hold up well with repeated folding.
Fold paper in half...the hamburger fold.
Turn paper sideways & fold the corner to edge...note the folded edge is on left.
Looks like this.
Fold the bottom up along edge...
Looks like this.
Rip that piece off...or use scissors.
Looks like this.
Open it up like so.
Fold it in half longways.
Looks like this.
Fold right edge to center crease.
Fold left edge to meet center like this. Open the doors (last two folds) &...
Fold left edge to the first crease on left side (the crease made from previous fold). Repeat on right side & unfold (right only).
Fold right side over to meet edge on left side. Unfold & repeat in left side.
Like this.
Completely unfold. Fold bottom edge to center crease. Fold top edge to center crease...
Looks like this.
Fold in half like I'm getting ready to do here.
Be sure you folded in half the correct way; you should have raw edge of paper in middle like this.
Draw a diamond (it won't show later).
Draw an "X". Flip paper over & repeat.
Unfold to look like this.
Tear off left edge (If u skip 14-16, u dont have to. u'll tuck it into itself further in step 28 is all...if that makes sense?). Now fold on all lines (easy if u lay ruler on line n fold over it).
Here it is all folded & creased really well. I flipped it over, so now all those lines I drew are on other side. Don't forget to do this.
Now you can color it. Color whatever colors you want, but you might want to color in same pattern. Click picture because you don't need to color left edge.
Doh! I just realized this baby has 4 sides, so color it this way instead.
Form a ring & tuck the edge you didn't color into the flaps of opposite edge like this.
Form into cube like this & then into...
Triangle like this.
Take the point of triangle & push in. In my model it's the green area. Push in the other two green areas...
Looks like this.
Here's a side view. Now do the same on the left side.
Looks like this.
Hold like so & pinch...
Like this. The blue area made a bow tie. Pinch in the other two pink areas the same way...
The pink areas are all pinched in & you're done. I added a piece of tape across the seams cuz they dont cooperate very good without it (the green ones in next photo). Carefully start flipping...
It'll take a few flips to break it in...flip in both directions, too. Be sure to click picture to see all the flips. There's actually 4 different flips...this one only shows 3 cuz of way I colored it.
