How to Keep From Catching a Cold at Work
Start the Guide ›

I am not a doctor but I have been told I have a good immune system. So here are some things I do when its cold season. I'm not sure if these are the reason I don't get sick, but they're worth a try.

Step 1 of 8
Get a water bottle from REI like this one and drink a ton of water. Water is not fun to drink but drinking a lot of it improves your immune system (as far as I can tell). I drink about 64 oz a day.

Step 2 of 8

If you're not going to the bathroom more than other folks at your office you probably are not drinking enough water. Use it as an opportunity to do the next step...

Step 3 of 8
Wash your hands more often, with more soap and lukewarm water. The key here is rubbing your hands together under the water.

Step 4 of 8
I drink one of these a day. I mix it with 8 oz water and it tastes pretty good. Not sure if this actually helps but I know that placebos work.

Step 5 of 8
Avoid stimulants like coffee. I think these harm your immune system. Also try to get as much natural rest as possible.

Step 6 of 8
Try to limit the number of times you rub your eyes or touch your face. If you have to, try using your knuckle instead of the pad of your finger. This includes your nose, keep those fingers clean.

Step 7 of 8
I try to eat more oranges. These little tangerines are easier to carry and peel than naval oranges. Also, drink more orange juice.

Great tips! I eat a 500 vitamin C every morning and I stay pretty well I also get a flu shot every year and I haven't had a bad cold in years. Im 32 and in good shape. Drinking lots of water will help u avoid fatigue. This is key. I work in the elements all year. Besides the sniffles I don't get sick anymore. I have saves so many sick days I get a week off every year along with vacation.

I drink coffee but I use Muscovado sugar. I believe the worst part of a coffee drink is really the white sugar and the creamer

Every morning I Squueze some fresh lemon juice to my water and have a cup to start the day, especially when traveling not sure when getting vit c. Yes washing hand is a must before food or just habit anytime before handling food or eating any food . Yes not touching eyes too is a great tip. I find taking fish oil daily help relax and stay alert. I am not coffee drinker but love dark chocolate coffee beans . Exercise like walking and swimming helps . Eating less carb and white protein and veggies also reduce excess calories for body to work. Hope that helps.
