Step 1 of 8

Shoes are very important for a dancer.. You can either wear foot undies or ballet shoes these are Capezio two soles. Pointe shoes are also another obvious choice

Step 2 of 8

Leotards are vital to serious dancers but amateurs can possibly get away with tanks. Black helps show your center and leotards help to see your rib placement

Step 3 of 8

Tights are also a necessity. They show if your legs are locked and clean up your outfit

Step 4 of 8

Booty shorts or spandex are optional over your leotards

Step 5 of 8

If you have a more relaxed teacher you can wear tight tank tops.

Or possibly even compression like shirts..

Then of course hair in a bun. Preferably sock bun and bobby pins for fly aways.

@Allie and @Taylor, I own a Dance Retail Store and deal with many dance studios. The Dress requirement usually has nothing to do with the type of studio the dancer is dancing it. The requirements are just what the teacher/s or studio owner wants their dancers to wear. If most studios are wearing Black, it just means that studio is wear black and nothing more. Every studio is different and that is why dance stores have all the different styles and colours for all the different Dress Requirements.

@Allie thanks!(: yeah that's how we are at my studio but apparently there are lots of different dress codes! Haha

For many dance studios you cannot where anything but a black Leo and pink tights, I an at a real ballet school and that is the dress code.., and most dance studios don't do color leos sorry to tell you... So Taylor u r right :)

Foot undies are for lyrical not ballet and at my studio you can wear pants

@Tanja thanks for the feedback!(: sorry we don't do different colored leotards at my studio but I'm glad you mentioned it!(: and oh yeah you are definatly right about the hair net thanks(:

You forgot to state that for each grade it's a different coloured leotard (in most dance places) and a hair net corresponding with the persons hair colour is more cleaner than a sock bun holder. :)
